ATLANTA  —

Business relationships are growing between the United States and India.

In 2007, Asian Indians owned over 12,000 firms in Georgia, up from just 7,000 firms in 2002. The survey is done every five years.

This week in Atlanta, the USA India Business Summit is bringing together business owners and entrepreneurs to grow Indian-owned business in the state.

Ani Agnihotri is the program chair for UIBS.

“We do feel that US India Business Summit is contributing and connecting entrepreneurs [and] businesses face to face. And with that interaction the bilateral trade is rapidly growing. I can estimate that it is growing at the rate of about 18-20%”

Agnihotri says that Indian businesses involved in the summit bring in over $1.5 billion a year to Georgia.

Overall, Indian business owners bring in more than $7 billion a year to Georgia.

There are 96,000 Indian-Americans living in Georgia.

Georgia is the 10th-largest exporter to India in the United States, with 2010 exports totaling more than $562 million.
