Georgia’s business community is beginning to object more forcefully to legislative proposals that would turn up the heat on illegal immigrants in the workforce.
At least seven statewide business organizations are either actively opposing legislation before the General Assembly clamping down on the hiring of illegal workers or, at a minimum, are raising concerns about how the proposed crackdown would affect their members.
Most of the groups represent specific industries that tend to attract suspected illegal workers: construction, heavy manufacturing, hospitality and agriculture.
But the list of organizations engaged in the debate also includes the Georgia Chamber of Commerce
