Governor Nathan Deal says the state needs an immigration reform bill it can use, rather than one for show.

  1. One major aspect of immigration reform we can really use in Georgia is to cut new ground for a state guest worker program. A state guest worker program could become a model for Federal consideration as to how this nation can tackle our need for reliable labor. The idea of codifying the cat and mouse game between law enforcement and labor that has persisted for nearly two decades under currently proposed legislation is suicidal. If we’re going to challenge Federal authority by passing state law let’s do it in a way that supports our recognized needs. What we seem to have now is a fools rush to legislate. What we need is reasoned state guest worker legislation if the Feds can’t figure it out.
